Compiled from copies of T/O & E 7-16, 7-17 and 7-18, dated 26th February, 1944. Received in response to request to US Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, USA. The following pages incorporate the effects of Change No.1 of 30th June, 1944, which decreased personnel slightly by reducing the number of 'Basics' and introduced additional automatic firepower.

It beggars belief that the first time the US Infantry Battalion got is hands on submachine guns was not until a month after D-Day. Those units which had seen action had no doubt had opportunity to acquire such weapons. Newer units which were committed directly to the campaign in the West though may have been armed on the official scaling.
