The United States Armored Infantry Battalion

The Armored Infantry Battalion was inspired by the success of mechanised German Panzer Grenadiers.  It was the American equivalent of such units and in its latter form, certainly in terms of weapons and equipment, I think it actually surpassed them.  A great strength of US Armored Divisions was that all of their Infantry Battalions were themselves armoured.  Unlike British and German formations, there were no lorry bound troops struggling to keep up across rough ground, or forced to fight a more traditional infantry battle.
