Points of note

The Allies began to recognise this type of Division during the latter half of 1944.  There was some discussion as to whether it was an experimental type of formation or what could be expected to be encountered in the future.

Key developments were the abolition of the Field Artillery Regiment, with guns now subordinated directly to the two defensive Regiments, and the adoption of the Regimental Group which included elements of the previous Divisional Engineer and Medical units.
